My HP envy won't shut down or restart. I press it over and over again and it won't do anything. The weird thing is that if I press for it to sleep it goes to sleep, but it won't respond when I try to turn it off. What can I do tpo fix it myself or will I need to go in to a store and ask for help?

You shoud be able to take care of that while logged into Windows.

Windows has settings in Power Options that you can change to choose what happens when you push the power button.

It would have helped a bit if you had identified the installed operating system.

I will show you where it is in Windows 10. It is almost identical to the  samesection in all recent Windows versions. (i.e. Windows 7,8, 8.1 and 10)

Type Power Option in the search box and then click on the Power option icon

After you use the dropdown to select your choice, don't forget to click on the save changes button down below.

I am a volunteer forum member, not an HP employee. If my suggestion solved your issue, don't forget to mark that post as the accepted solution. If you want to say thanks, click on the Yes button next to the "was this reply helpful?"
