Hp omen 15 (2018)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

hello.

my laptop fan, specificly the right one (from where im sitting tying this), is making a weird noise. its similar to a motorcycles hum but mor realisticly it sounds as though its hitting something. I have opened up the back and checked on the fans, i cleared out a little dust and checked to see what might cause the issue but i found nothing.

the sound changes when the move the laptop. for instance if I tilt it towards me to that it stands up, the noise goes away but when i place it back down to type on it the noise comes back.

this is the third issue with the laptop. Im experiencing battery issue (plugged in but wont charge) and the fans run quite loud at all times. should i return it or is there a simple fix?

Thanks in advance 😃

@Michaelfromhome,

Thank you for posting your query on HP Support Community,

This looks like a possible hardware failure with the notebook. However, I would suggest you try these steps here:

I would recommend you go ahead and run an extensive system test from F2(Please capture the failure ID for further assistance).

If the test fails, I would suggest this could be a possible hardware failure. I would recommend you contact our HP support team for further assistance.

HP support can be reached on www.hp.com/contacthp

If the test passes, I would suggest you update the Bios, Chipset and graphics card drivers on your PC either from our HP support website, using this link or download it using HP support assistant.

Download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

For starters please perform all the prescribed steps from these links to try and fix the issue- HP Notebook PCs - Fan is Noisy and Spins Constantly, PC is Warmer than Normal:  https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01007591

Link 2: reducing heat inside the computer: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01657439

Let me know how it goes for further assistance!
