HP Omen 15.6 inch ce070tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I purchased my HP Omen 15.6 inch ce070tx in Jan 2018. Recently, when I unscrewed the back cover to carry out periodic general cleaning of the laptop, I noticed that the battery has swollen excessively and is at the danger of exploding. My question is if the lithium ion battery has the tech to cutoff power automatically to prevent overcharging then why is the battery swollen? I use my laptop to play Counter Strike Global Offensive for 2 hours everyday and plug in the charger while playing because it is not possible to play on battery backup itself. Request assistance with this issue. Thanks.

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

It is the battery technology that has failed.  Companies use what is available for their devices (notebooks and phones, for example).  Battery tech is not all that advanced in some ways.  It is unfortunate.

Regardless of all else,

The solution is to remove the bloated battery from the computer and replace it with a new compatible battery.

The bloated battery will fail, if it has not done so already.

The replacement procedure is pretty straight forward, in fact, and you already know how to open the case.
