Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fa1000 (771S7AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My laptop has two 8GB DDR2 3200 memory sticks installed.

Windows Task Manager shows the clock speeds as 3200 MHz, but HWiNFO64 shows both sticks at 1330.1 MHz, which would make it 2660.02 MHz, somewhat short of the advertised 3200 MHz; now HWiNFO also shows the maximum supported clock speed as the advertised 3200. So, is there a way to change that? My BIOS settings have no way to modify clock speeds, at least not that I could find, and there are no available BIOS updates either.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are getting clock speed issues in your computer, I am glad to assist you.

Update the Bios, chipset, and drivers using HP Support Assistant.

Download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: Click here

  • HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook
  • Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  • Click Updates in the My notebook pane
  • Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  • Updates list in HP Support Center
  • Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  • Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  • Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also, ensure Windows is up to date.

  • Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Let me know how it goes.

Hello, thank you for your support.

I have done as you requested, including a BIOS update, yet the issue persists, the BIOS update not only did not solve the clock speed issue, it did not add the capability to alter memory clock speeds through itself (the BIOS settings), which one would imagine would be a useful feature on a gaming laptop. As of the time of this writing, my laptop's memory clock speeds - as validated by HWiNFO - remain at 2660 MHz, not insubstantially below the advertised 3200 MHz.

Here's hoping there's other avenues that can be pursued to try and solve this issue. I thank you again in advance.
