My conjecture is that the desktop is outputting data via a high-speed USB port faster than the ancient printer can read it.

I can print a test page and a diagnostic page direct from the front of the printer and all is well, but I get a "failed" message when I try to send a test page from the computer. I have changed computer ports and cables, but I can't find a pair that works. At one time the printer/computer pair did work together, but I can't remember what port/cable combination that I used. Are there any HP digital electronics engineers out there that can tell me what port/cable combination will work? Is printer-cable length (about ten feet) an issue?
