HP Laserjet CP1525nw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to print from a Windows 10 PC to an HP Laserjet CP1525nw printer on a wireless network.  All other computers on the network can print to this printer successfully.  When I attempt to print, Windows gives the message "Error" on the Print Status page.  The printer control panel sees nothing.   I have attempted to uninstall and reinstall the printer on this machine, but the error still occurs.   The uninstall did not appear to complete successfully; reviewing the log, I see only one message that I don't understand; "failed to get the old acl for the path....."  Upon reinstallation, there are three errors in the log.

1.  "Failed to initialize pRecErr".  This message occurred twice in the log.

2.  "Product line failed to be retrieved from registry.  Setting default: 103C_5335KV"

I'm betting there's a registry problem, but I have no idea how to fix it.  Help!

@Elizabeth24, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Start with trying these steps:

Step 1: Check Print Spooler:

  1. Open your Start screen by selecting the Windows button on the bottom left-hand side of your computer screen or by selecting the Windows key on the bottom left of your keyboard, to the right of the Ctrl button
  2. In the Start screen type Run
  3. Click on Run to launch the Run dialogue box
  4. In the Run box type services.msc and select OK
  5. When the Services window opens scroll down until you see Print Spooler
  6. Click on Print Spooler once just to highlight it
  7. If you see Start in the top left-hand corner than that indicates that your Print Spooler is in fact Stopped (not good). But we will leave this for now.
  8. If you see Stop or Restart in the top left-hand corner then this indicates that your Print Spooler is actually Started. Please click on Stop to temporarily Stop the service.
  9. Minimize this window as we will  need to come back here

Step 2: Check Spooler Folder:

  1. Reopen your Start screen
  2. Type Computer. Click on Computer (or This PC) when it populates as a result
  3. In the Computer, window select your C Drive
  4. Click on Windows
  5. Click System32
  6. Click Spool
  7. Click PRINTERS. You may get a permissions warning, just Continue past this.
  8. The PRINTERS folder should be empty. If there are any files in here they are corrupted print jobs. Right-click on anything in this folder and 'delete' the files.
  9. Close the PRINTERS folder

Step 3: Start Spooler and Check Dependencies:

1. Reopen the Services window we previously minimized

2. Click on Print Spooler again to highlight it

3. Click on Start in the top left corner

4. If you get an error message please take note of it

5. If the Print Spooler starts successfully you will see 'Stop and Restart' as your options in the top left

6. Next, double left click on Print Spooler. A Print Spooler Properties window will now open. Click on the Log On tab at the top. Can you please make sure this is set to Local System Account and make sure the box is checked to 'Allow Service to Interact with Desktop'.

7. Next, click on the 'Dependencies' tab. Please check what Dependencies are listed. I will need to know this should the issue persist once you complete the steps I'm providing in this post.

8. Click Apply and OK for any changes you may have made under the Log On tab. Close the Services window.

Now try accessing the Devices and Printers and try deleting the printer.

And then install the printer drivers and try printing.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for responding!

I followed your instructions, but unfortunately, I still have the problem.

When I checked the Printers folder on System32/Spool, there were four files, all of which I deleted.   I  returned to Services, started  the Print Spooler and saw the same two dependencies as on the screen capture you provided: HTTP and Remote Procedure Call.

I then went to Devices and Printers and Added a Printer.  The computer saw the HP Printer, called NP10F791D HP Laserjet CP1525nw and I "installed" it.  The printer then appeared in the printer list.  When I looked at the status it said, "Driver is unavailable."

I looked at the Control Panel, Program and Features and confirmed that there was no HP Program there (I expected to see HP Laserjet Professional CP1520 Series).

I then started the HP Smart App.  It also saw the printer and indicated that status was, "Printer not installed.  I used HP Smart to attempt to install the printer.  The response was, "Tehre was a problem during installation.  To manually install the printer, open Windows settings...."  Okay, so that's getting me back to where I was....

I removed the device from Devices and Printers.

I started at the beginning of your instructions again, stopping the print spooler and checking the printers folder.  This time there were no files in the folder.

This time I attempted to install the printer using the HPInstaller.exe.    I selected "install a printer through a wireless network" and selected my printer (the only one that appeared) when prompted, and pressed continue.  The Installer said, "Installing Software...." It then indicated that the software was ready and gave me the option to print a test page and to make the printer the default printer.  I selected both and when it attempted to print the test page, I got the same "Error-printing" message.  When I looked on the control panel on the printer, there was no indication that it had received any data.

I checked the port for the printer -- a TCP/IP port,  Protocol Raw (I tried LPR but got the message "queue name not valid", so I changed it back).  Raw Settings Port Number is 9100. SNMP Status Enabled is not checked.  The print processor screen is shown below.

So, what next?

@TEJ1602 HP Tech.  I just applied your very excellently detailed recommendation for a solution to one printer on the network not being able to print, while others are able to.  Haven't tried to print yet, but I just wanted to give you Kudos for such an excellent presentation of a solution. Thanx for being here!
