Pavilion 14-bk0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After 5 months this laptop was returned due to tinny sound, a whirring buzzing fan, and other issues, and was supposedly sorted out.

Now (2 days outside warranty!) the sound is suddenly very tinny, with no real bass, especially when connected through the audio port to external speakers. I thought it must be a problem with the speaker at first, but having tried others, the problem is definitely with the laptop.

I checked the Sound Manager - it says Realtek is working fine, but I did discover this message under Further Information:

Device HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0295&SUBSYS_103C8362&REV_1000\4&bae9325&0&0001 requires further installation.

What does this mean, and could it have something to do with this issue?

Would sooooo appreciate your thoughts and expertise on how to fix this. Many many thanks in advance 🙂

@tabithacat

Please do a clean install Audio softeware/driver, this should help. (yes, they are related):

   (a) Download the following driver and save on your computer,

        https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp92001-92500/sp92073.exe

   (b) Go to Device Manager, Sound to uninstall sound driver and reboot,
   (c) Right click downloaded file and select Run as administrator,
   (d) Reboot again.

Regards.
