HP Recommended
OMEN by HP 17-an018na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi guys. I have 2017 Omen 17 i7-7700HQ- GTX 1060 -16 GB -1 TB HDD -256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD. and CPU usage issue. When I power on my unit there is CPU usage about 15% all the time with turbo boost, but when I restart it problem is gone. It's realy annoying to power on and restart it everytime when I want to use it. I done a little research.

CPU usage: System / ntoskrnl.exe / ACPI.sys.

I tried:

Disable Windows Search

Disable Fast start up ( Windows)

Full shutdown Windows

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Windows Performance Toolkit to Diagnose

Disable Wake on Magic Packet

Clean Windows from Miscrosoft

BIOS F06 / F07

All driver updated according to Windows update and HP Support Assistant

Greetings @vac23,

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.

I understand that you need to restart your computer to reduce the CPU usage on your computer, is that right?

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.

Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.

Have you run a diagnostics on your computer?

Recommend you refer to this Microsoft article and try a clean boot on your computer.

Ignore if already attempted.

Shut down the computer, if it is on.

Wait for a minute.

Turn the computer On and keep tapping F2 repeatedly on startup to enter system diagnostics.

Run a system test on your computer.

Refer to this HP Article for assistance.

This would let us know if all the components are working fine.

If possible restore the BIOS to defaults and check.

If the issue persists, perform a push button reset on your computer. Click here

Based on the specifications of your computer, your computer did not come with an SSD. Click here

Did you add an SSD to your computer?

Keep me posted.

I tried all you suggested. All components - passed

Nothing has changed.

- Power on - CPU ¬15%  system ( CPU-0 copy) / ntoskrnl / ACPI

- Restart - no issue

- Sleep  - no issue

- Hibernate - no issue

My computer come with

Hard drive (2nd) 256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD

I think problem is with BIOS or with Windows

Thanks for the reply and trying the suggested steps. Would it be possible to recheck the product number of your computer as the specs do not show SSD?

Found this Microsoft Forums post which has a lot of suggestions. (post says Windows 8, but the steps are relevant to Windows 10 as well.)

Try it in your spare time and let know which one helped resolve the issue.

Keep me posted. Good Luck.

Did not go well. Most of it I done before. Windows 1709 - no changes. Maybe this is NVMe or BIOS issues?
