hello, I also have the gray screen problem, my laptop is an HP  Pavilion notebook. The other day I fell asleep in my bed with the computer next to me and it fell on the floor since then it is not working, when I turn it on I can see the arrow movings around and the lights from the computer are also on. I have watched many videos on youtube saying to press the power button for several seconds and then when I turn it on again it takes me to a blue screen, and then to the "safe mode", and other option from the advanced option. I think the link that you posted is for black screens, but I know my screen is working because I can see different options with the "blue screen"

Sorry, but dropping a laptop, even onto a carpeted floor, nearly always results in some damage -- usually to the hard drive and/or the screen -- and since this is considered accidental damage, it is generally NOT covered under the HP warranty.

The ONLY way to know for sure is to take or send it to an HP Service Center and pay a LOT of money for them to run full diagnostics on it, and after that, to disassemble it to repair or replace any damaged components.

And, if the motherboard is damaged, the cost of repair can easily exceed the cost of replacing the laptop -- because (as far as I know) liquid spill damage is NOT covered under the warranty.
