HP Spectre 13-4003dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello. I have a HP Spectre 13-4003dx that no longer works. it does not power on, and i get no video signal, no fans spinning, no lights. Ive tried a har reset and that resulted in the power light blinking 3 times, but then nothing after that, still no charge. Ive heard that this can result in a dead motherboard and i would not like to pay 800+ for a manufacturer defect. Ive treated the computer amazingly well and this is quite dissapointing, especially because this happened after it fell out of warranty.

Anything helps.

Thanks, JROS

Not sure where you are located,or if you would be interested, but several members have reported using this service with good results. It is evidently a blown capacitor on the motherboard.

Yeah, Ive heard of them. The only problem i see is that my capacitors look okay. no burn in the "Replace with HP Spare" label. $120 is for sure a good investment to make, i would just like some more ideas before i make that decison. Thanks!

There was a Reddit thread some months ago(maybe a year) about Spectre problems like this. It seemed to be either of two specific areas-one being the very common blown capacitor and another with a bad component somewhere between the dc jack and battery. I don't believe it was obvious with that component and the poster initially replaced it as troubleshooting step. Sorry, I can't be more specific but it has been awhile since I browsed through that thread. Of course on one thread here at HP there was a guy who discovered his dc jack was bad. Another found his dc jack was loose and when the cord was plugged in it moved and was not getting a good connection.

Considering how my capacitor looks okay, its probably got something to do with the dc jack or battery, found out the jacks weren’t expensive so i ordered on just for the goof of it, may end up working out anyways.

Ill keep you updated and see if it makes a difference
