hp elitebook 840 g4

Hi,

    i was having an issue with the sure start bios lockup. the bios password was set and after a few days the sure start would not take the password and we could not access the OS or any other bios options. we tried bios reset but it was a fail and also tried a usb key method but it also failed.
   please provide me with a solution.

thanks,

Ashish

@aascis

For that model you will need to contact HP in your region and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request.

Thanks for the response.

i have already tried that solution of using smc.bin but after pressing the win+up arrow + down arrow it goes back to the sure start rather then the resetting BIOS option.

please provide with any other solution.

I have the same problem.  Brand new ZBook 17 G4 arrived 3 days ago.  Spent a whole day configuring Windows and installing software.  Enabled Sure Start with fingerprints and password.  Did many reboots.  Worked fine for 1 day, now does not recognize my fingerprints or password, so I am COMPLETELY locked out.  No flashing LEDs to indicate a special Sure Start condition.

Surely this has happened many times before so HP should know EXACTLY how to get out of this mess.

By the way, this is the second laptop.  First one arrived DOA after 3 week delivery time.  Theh  another 3 weeks for second one, now this!!!  I'M NOT HAPPY!!!

Bought a Elitebook 850 G5 three days ago, and my experiences are exactly the same. HP Sure Start surely sucks, and I am definitely not happy. I've used HP since the eighties, and am now considering to disembark.
