HP Spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I had the HP Spectre x360 since 2016/2017 and suddenly the machine just died while it was in use. The charging led does not turn on and the laptop no longer charges (charger and outlets are fine). I called HP support and they walked me through a hard reset and after that did not work, they informed that I would have to ship the laptop (could not take it to a service center near me) and that repair costs would be around 600/650 because it is out of warranty.

I have seen many others with this specific laptop bought in the same timeframe post in the HP support community, and it seems to be due to faulty parts on this model. If possible, I would like to receive assistance for this issue.

This will not work for everyone, but you may be lucky?

HP Notebooks and Mobile Workstations -
No Power, No Boot, No Display When Power Button Is Pressed

NOTE: Be sure the battery is installed in the computer and it has sufficient power before continuing. Due to the design of the Embedded Controller/Keyboard Controller, the power supply must be disconnected and the computer must be powered with battery power to reset the Embedded Controller/Keyboard Controller.

Unplug the AC power from the computer.
Press and hold the power button for more than 12 seconds.
Release the power button (after at least 12 seconds).
The computer will power on and should boot normally after releasing the power button.
Re-connect the AC power to the computer.

NOTE: In case the battery is not charging after performing the steps to reset the Embedded Controller, unplug and re-plug in the AC power again.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply! This, as well as the hard reset guided by hp customer service, unfortunately did not work. After reading on this forum I see that many others with this computer is having an issue where the motherboard needs to be replaced. HP customer service quoted the repair at $600+ when I spoke to them, however I see that many were able to get theirs replaced at no cost considering it was defective to begin with.

They should recall the model, having a motherboard fry up after a couple years is unacceptable.
