ENVY x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all,

I've had this laptop for a few months now (HP Envy x360 Ryzen 5 2500U). In terms of performance it's doing everything I want. However it's running very hot and the laptop fan is very noisy. I had initially read that it might be a bios/firmware/driver issue so in November I updated everything HP had recommended at the time (BIOS, a few drivers for audio and network). Since then I've been running into BSODs and I've only managed to capture a handful of error codes (it flashes so fast and then restarts so i miss a few of them).

With respect to the error codes... this is what I've managed to capture.

"Critical_Process_Died"

"Unexpected_store_exception"

"SYstem_thread_Exception_not_handled"

Looking at windows event viewer has not been enlightening as it only reports the critical error of the system inappropriately shutting down and not the reason why.

I've run HP's hardware diagnostics both from the "boot up F2" and the windows client both of which say everything is working fine.

I'm assuming it has something to do with the update, but it would be nice to isolate the issue so I can undo that particular problem rather than having to wipe everything and start from scratch again.

I should add that updating everything also hasn't really fixed the overheating problem either. I'm also suspecting that the BSODs may be related to that as well as when the laptop is running purely off the battery I don't have any issues (and the fan / temps aren't as high). Often when it's charging and i'm using the laptop the fan is blowing away like a jet engine and then BSODs tend to happen.

Any help would be appreciated. Like I said above, my worst case scenario is to reformat everything and start from scratch, but if there's someway to isolate what the issue is (and it would be nice to fix the overheating problem too) that would be appreciated!

@HotBSOD

Bluescreen failures (i.e., BSODs) are notoriously difficult to diagnose and to fix -- far beyond what WE typically can do in THIS self-help Community.

You have a couple of different options to chose from ...

--------------------

The first is that of specialized forums where where folks have vast experience troubleshooting, diagnosing, and suggesting repairs for BSODs. These are available depending on the OS involved, as follows:

The community Win10 forums has a section devoted to diagnosing BSODs. So, your best bet would be to post your problem there: https://www.tenforums.com/bsod-crashes-debugging/

--------------------

The second is using free software to examine the logs that BSODs produce. This app is known as bluescreenview and is available from NirSoft, from here: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html

You will then have to go online to do searches with that information to get further suggestions about what to do.

Good Luck
