HP Notebook 15-dy1023dx
Microsoft Windows 11

When my laptop(15-dy1023dx) goes to sleep. it often hangs when it wakes up. Sometimes with screen of last open app, sometimes moveable cursor, sometimes frozen cursor, sometimes grey screen. keyboard/clicks unresponsive, no response if cursor is placed on known hotlink. More often grey screen if left overnight. Started sometime after an auto windows upgrade, may not be related

Hi @technophile50,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Notebook 15 is experiencing issues with waking up from sleep mode after a Windows upgrade. This could be due to various reasons, including driver issues, system settings, or even hardware problems. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

  • Update Drivers: Make sure all your device drivers, especially graphics and chipset drivers, are up to date. You can do this through the Device Manager in Windows or by visiting the HP website and downloading the latest drivers for your specific model.
  • Power Settings: Check your power settings in Windows to ensure that they are configured correctly. Sometimes, changes in power settings can cause issues with sleep mode. Make sure that your computer is set to sleep and wake up properly.
  • BIOS Update: Check if there's a BIOS update available for your HP Notebook. Sometimes, BIOS updates include fixes for sleep mode and other power-related issues.
  • Disable Fast Startup: Fast Startup is a feature in Windows that can sometimes cause problems with waking up from sleep. Try disabling Fast Startup to see if it resolves the issue. You can do this in the Power Options settings.
  • Check for Windows Updates: Even though the issue started after a Windows upgrade, there might be subsequent updates that address the problem. Check for any pending Windows updates and install them.
  • Run System File Checker: Use the System File Checker tool to scan for and repair any corrupted system files that might be causing the issue. Open Command Prompt as administrator and run the command sfc /scannow.
  • Check for Malware: Sometimes, malware can interfere with system processes and cause issues like this. Run a full system scan with your antivirus software to check for any malware infections.
  • System Restore: If the issue started after a recent Windows upgrade, you can try using System Restore to revert your system to a previous state before the upgrade. This can sometimes fix compatibility issues.
  • Hardware Diagnostics: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there's a hardware problem causing the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
