Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I have a 2015 HP Laptop that my brother uses; yesterday, he had to reboot the computer after it was running sluggishly on Minecraft, and figured rebooting would be the next best bet. He rebooted it, but he did it more than once. He caused Windows to check for drive errors, which is normal for Windows to do. However; it failed to check for drive errors. No matter what you try to do to get it to boot (using command prompt, system restore doesn't even detect restore points, etc.) fails. In command prompt, running commands to rebuild BCD comes up that there's no detected Windows installs, but I can go to "C:" and type "dir" where you can clearly see the Windows files. It was working fine on Wednesday; the last that I used it was Tuesday as I've switched to a Chromebook, so I needed the Windows platform to use an app.

I will also mention that yesterday (3/5/2020 or 5/3/2020) I was able to get to the Desktop of Windows 10; unsure what exactly I did, but it got there. I did install McAfee by accident as it came bundled with Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader the other day, but was uninstalling it as I already have Norton installed. It boots to BSOD, and the code it gives is "BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO". I cannot wipe the laptop; it has important files on it!

Hi
First:- Turn off the computer, press and hold the PWR button for 4 seconds.

Then - Leave only keyboard and mouse connected, disconnect all externally connected
devices such as Docking Station, USB storage devices, displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

Next - Press and Hold the Power button for 15 seconds to Hard Reset.
Rinse and Repeat; Re-Connect the AC adapter.

NOW begin checking/testing/proving the Hardware is fit for purpose.
Power on your PC, press ESC (repeatedly), then F2 at the prompt.
Choose System Tests (Fast Test does a 4 minute hardware check).
AND/OR
HOW DO I USE DIAGNOSTICS?

HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows is a Windows-based utility that allows you to run diagnostic tests to determine if the computer hardware is functioning properly. The tool runs within the Windows operating system in order to diagnose hardware failures. HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows comes pre-installed on new HP computers, but if not on yours, download here:-

Next would be software, and make a W10 DVD/USB to Repair/Rebuild/Recover/Re-Install as required.

If in doubt please ask.

I did the Fast Test, and it failed. It did the battery check, which is weak but still holds a charge. We will probably replace it soon anyway. Processor through Hard Drive SMART Check all passed. It got to Hard Drive Short DST Check, and failed. It gave me the following failure ID: QCUFJ0-7L2A23-XD7V7A-60WA03

I chose not to make a bootable Windows 10 USB. I have an Ubuntu 19.10 USB that I've used on this HP Laptop specifically before it started failing to boot. I was able to boot into Ubuntu, and I am able to see all contents of my Hard Drive. I'm currently backing up all of the important files from it onto an External SSD. Thank you for your help; however, it wasn't able to fix the laptop.

Hi

Your PC was built with the following parts...

And has a  --  778190-005  --   750GB SATA hard disk drive - 5,400 RPM, 7.0mm form factor.

Which after almost 5 years now needs replacing.
