Windows 7 won't start. Flashing cursor, blank screen

Pavilion g7
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Not sure what happend.  May have a bad battery.  problem exists with or without the battery.  The screen is blank and the curser in the top left of the screen flashes.  When I power up, if I keep pressing the F2 key I can get to advanced diagnostics.

Note sure if I have 32 or 64 bit.

Hello,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum.

The issue may be software or hardware related.

As you reached to F2 option, please complete the hardware check .

Follow the on-screen instructions to perform System Test >> Quick test.

This will check major hardware componets for issue (do it just in case) . Here is more info >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467259#AbT1

If all tests pass and there is no error, the the issue is software related. please use the F11 option to open System Recovery options

The computer should boot from recovery partition to open you various recovery options. Note, that F11 option will only work if the recovery partition is there (not deleted) and intact. From there, you have prenty of options to choose from.

Please, perform Recovery to restore your OS to factory default condition. Here are details:
