HP Spectre x360 Convertible goes into sleep mode when I tilt the screen back

HP Spectre x360 Convertible
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When I tilt the screen back, my computer sometimes goes into sleep mode, or at least it appears to be in sleep mode (the screen goes blank and the power button flashes).  To get it back on I usually have to press and hold the power button until it completely shuts down, then reboot.  It appears to happen when the hinges get bent in a certain way.  Is there a cable or ribbon that runs across the back of the unit that might be getting pinched?  How can I troubleshoot this and get it fixed?

HP Spectre x360 Convertible goes into sleep mode when I tilt the screen back

@DRE23112

Thank you for joining HP Forums.}

I'll be glad to help you 🙂

As I understand the HP Spectre x360 Convertible goes into sleep mode when I tilt the screen back,

First, make sure these setting are intact and set to "Do nothing" to ensure this isn't a hardware issue:

If you prefer to have Windows place your computer into another mode instead of sleep, you can change the power saving default settings. Windows provides the option to define your power buttons and the option to turn on password protection on exiting.

  1. Click Start , Control Panel, System and Maintenance, and then click Power Options.

  2. From the Select a power plan page, click Choose what the power buttons do from the list on the left panel.

  3. On the Define power buttons and turn on password protection page, you then have the option of choosing what happens when you:

    • press the power button

    • press the sleep button

    • close the lid

HP Spectre x360 Convertible goes into sleep mode when I tilt the screen back

 I've already done what you suggested to no avail.  Let me clarify a little,  it's not an issue about closing the lid or opening it all the way into tablet mode, the unit goes into sleep mode when I only adjust  the screen a little -  such as when I tilt it back a little beyond 90 degrees.

@DRE23112

Thank you for the update,

I appreciate the clarification,

If that's the case, you may want to update the BIOS and chipset drivers using the Official HP Website:
Click here for details (using your product number)

If the issue persists, you will need to do a system refresh: Click here for info.

@DRE23112

Thank you for the replying,

I'm glad BIOS and chipset drivers are up to date,

That said, I would appreciate if you could perform the system refresh and reply back with the results.

Also, the next step (if the refresh doesn't help) is a recovery using the HP recovery manager: Click here for details.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.
