Hi,
In that case, check the following.
1. The halt code ( generated after 3 incorrect entries ) that you've posted is correct.
2. Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Plug in the AC Adapter ( leave the battery out for the moment ), start the notebook and try entering the code 46093208 again.
3. To rule out a keyboard issue, try entering the code via an external usb QWERTY keyboard.

Hi Gerard,
You're welcome
One possibility ( that can also cause a power on password to spontaneously appear ) is a problem with the hard drive, so I'd suggest checking this as follows.
Shutdown the notebook.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu. Select the Diagnostic Menu option ( f2 ) and run the tests on the Hard Drive.
Post back with the results, including any error codes that may be generated.

Hi David,
The system isnt finding the HDD at all so I have removed it and will run tests on it later using an external connection. Its an inexpensive Hitachi SATA drive which has probably ran its course.
Thank you so much for you help anyway, really appreciate it.
Kind Regards
Gerard
