Hello,
As the above topic implies, please can someone help me get the SMC.bin file to unlock my BIOS. I have tried almost all methods but to no avail. All supports that I could, they either tell me its not possible or I have to bring the laptop first. But Hp site indicates it is possible to recover or reset ur bios password remotely by getting the SMC.bin file.

HP no longer supplies SMC.bin files.

Please note that now, to resolve a forgotten BIOS password issue, a system board replacement is required -- and additional customer costs apply, HP has issued this post about BIOS passwords: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06368824.

In addition, according to the Community's Rules of Participation (which you can read from here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/custom/page/page-id/hp.rulespage😞

4d. No posts shall include instructions or directions intended to bypass or subvert security measures, including passwords, locking mechanisms, fingerprint scans, etc., or to bypass any safety measures.

For assistance NOW, you have to contact your regional HP Customer Support location directly as they will confirm ownership of the PC before providing any assistance -- something we are not able to do from here.

Thanks for the quick reply.

1) Please, does this approach applies to older versions. My computer's manufacture date is 12/8/2011.

2) If yes, do you have a fair idea of the additional customer cost for the system board replacement

3) Unfortunately, I can't find the location of my regional HP Customer Support in the link you provided here http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

Please, any alternative help

Sorry, but that is the new HP policy regarding BIOS passwords and there is nothing we can do from here.

As to the cost, that varies by PC, but my guess would be $200 or so -- but you would have to contact HP to get an accurate estimate.

@WAWood,

Thanks so much for your time. I must say I'm really grateful.

But this new HP policy regarding BIOS passwords is too cumbersome! A service they have been providing for free previously now comes with a (huge) cost. I hope they revise this policy again for their customers.
