SimplePass with Windows 7 - not working, no error message

HP Recommended

I am actually having an error using the SimplePass software at all.  Worked fine up until a day ago.  Then all of a sudden the fingerprint reader doesn't read anything.  I've uninstalled, reinstalled (and currently have a case going with HP support) but I have a HP Pavilion dv6t-6c00 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook PC running Windows 7 Home Professional 64bit.  Now, whenever I go to Biometric Devices (the device is working properly, by the way) and select "use your fingerprint with Windows", SimplePass opens.

I select Yes, select the finger I want to use, enter password, and then it says "it looks like you're having trouble, would you like to try again?" before I can even swipe my finger.  I click "yes" and then click the finger I want to use, enter the password, and right back to "it looks like you're having trouble...".  If I ever select "no", it just closes SimplePass.

Any ideas?  I'm not getting ANY error messages, the device is working properly, it's been cleaned and everything.  Not sure what would be causing this all of a sudden.

The Biometric Validity Sensor driver for your system running Windows 7:

Ideas

Yellow_Arrow_Bullet_2.jpgBefore you make any changes, Create a Restore Point:

Stop all programs:  Browsers, games, Applications, etc.

Control Panel > icon view > System > System Protection

Click (Highlight) your main disk (C) > Select Create a Restore Point

Yellow_Arrow_Bullet_2.jpgPerform a Hard Reset (device reset)

  • Perform the Hard Reset for your notebook
  • Boot the computer and log in

Reminder:  Forced Reset is a device Reset.  The Forced Reset procedure does not wipe out your files nor does it destroy your Windows software or data in any way.  It just "clears the cobwebs".  Depending on the cause of the problem, this kind of "reset" can fix a variety of computer glitches.

Yellow_Arrow_Bullet_2.jpgReinstall the Validity Driver

  • Open the Device Manager > open Biometric > Right-Click on your Validity Driver > Uninstall
  • Shut down the computer, wait a few seconds, boot and log in

The driver will reinstall itself as you boot / log into the machine.

Yellow_Arrow_Bullet_2.jpgReinstall the HP SimplePass Program

Assuming you are still using the "old" Series 6 HP SimplePass program) >

Download and install the latest version of the Series 6 HP SimplePass program:

sp63224 HP SimplePass V6.0.100.276 Win7-8

OR

IF you have previously switched to the "new" Series 8 HP SimplePass prgram >

Download and install the latest version of the Series 8 HP SimplePass program:

sp76923 HP SimplePass V8.01.62A W7-W10 32/64bit

After you install the program > Reboot the computer and log in

Remember:

  • Series 6 HP SimplePass, that is, any version 6.x and even the ancient 5.x versions of HP SimplePass, are the AuthenTec code (written by AuthenTec).

  • Series 8 HP SimplePass, that is, any version 8.x (or higher) of HP SimplePass, is the Softex code that is currently supported and available for Windows 7 through Windows 10.

  • The two series are NOT, repeat NOT compatible with one another.  The two programs cannot be on the computer at the same time.
  • The code is different, the encryption is different, there is not conversion program between Export database (backup of website / passwords)

You can Switch series:

  • Uninstall one series > reboot > install the other series > reboot
  • Series 8 is NOT an "upgrade" to Series 6.
