Microsoft Windows 11

Hi everyone,

my laptop recently stopped sending signal to the my HDMI external monitor after plugging in a USB device. The combination of both devices worked flawlessly until the screen randomly went black and never recovered.

What I've tried so far:

  • unplugged / uninstalled / reinstalled the USB device driver
  • uninstalled / reinstalled drivers for the nvidia GPU
  • uninstalled / reinstalled drivers for the integrated GPU
  • run the HP hardware diagnostic tool which didn't detect any error
  • changed the HDMI cable
  • made sure the monitor is working by plugging it into another laptop

I've also tried to run Ubuntu and the HDMI screen flickers and shows what you can see in the attached image.

Is there anything else I can do on my own?

Thanks!

Hi @francescosinisi

Welcome to the HP Support Community. Thanks for bringing this to our notice.

I see that you are facing black screen-related issues on your system. Do not worry, we are here to fix it.

May I know from when are you facing this issue?

Did you make any hardware or software-related changes to it?

May I know if your system is working fine when you don't connect it to the HDMI monitor?

You may try the step shared in the link below and let me know the outcome of it: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01997899

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi @Nirvana_95,

Thank you for your time!

I tried performing the hard reset as suggested by the procedure you kindly linked but nothing changed. I got no errors other than the one stating that the battery was not found, which was removed to perform the hard reset procedure.

No other software changes have been made apart from the updates provided by Windows. The screen went black after connecting the Logitech G29 wheel, which have been already used previously without problems.

The system works, the GPUs (both the integrated and the dedicated one) work fine. I can play games without any issues so I guess the graphic cards are ok. The only issue I'm facing is related to the HDMI port.

I tried running the analysis using the HP diagnostic tool but no issues were reported.
