Is it possible to connect an extra monitor via type c port on HP pavilion 15?

Pavilion 15-cc5xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I currently bought a HP Pavilion 15, which got only one hdmi port and type c port and two 2.0 USB port.

I want to find out if it's possible to connect an extra monitor via type c port? I have seen a lot of type c adapter that can convert hdmi or vga...but it looks like it's not working on my pavilion...i am wondering if the type c on my laptop is not for screen or display?

Please any one can help?  I will appreciate that.

Thanks

RICKY

Is it possible to connect an extra monitor via type c port on HP pavilion 15?

Hello @Ricky34,

I regret to inform you that display output is not an option on this laptop's USB-C port.

It states on your computer's Specifications page that the USB-C port is: USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s)

So, unfortunately, you're stuck with your HDMI.

Hopefully, this answers your question,

Eddy

Is it possible to use a USB port to power multiple monitors on the 15-cc5xx? USB 3.0 for example?

Thanks

@DionSoepboer Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you would like to connect the external monitor using the USB port.

It states on your computer's Specifications page that the USB-C port is: USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s)

You can try using a docking station or you can purchase the routers.

You could purchase the part from HP, use the HP Parts surfer to identify the part: http://partsurfer.hp.com/search.aspx

And order it via the HP Parts store: https://parts.hp.com/hpparts/CountryChoice.aspx?mscssid=&ccode=ZZ&lcode=ZZ

Or alternatively, Contact HP for setting up an order/service via phone support

Keep us posted,

Is it possible to connect an extra monitor via type c port on HP pavilion 15?

Hi,

I allready bought this USB-C Dock and it doesn't work.. The only solution for me to use this dock is to buy a new laptop..

This brings up a few problems as well.. What are the exact requirements for the dock? USB-C has a few different types, is it enough if the port supports DisplayPort 1.4 or it is required to support thunderbolt? I can't find good answers to these questions..

Maybe you can help? Thanks

@DionSoepboer

Thank you for the update.

Are you getting any error messages while connecting the external monitor to the docking station?

Please let me know which brand docking station you are using. Please provide the product number.

Have a nice day!!

@praveen196

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I am getting an error when connecting the dock. I am currently using the HP USB-C dock G4.

My current notebook probably doesn't support this dock, so I'm looking to buy a new notebook which supports DisplayPort 1.4 or thunderbolt.

So I was wondering if thunderbolt is required or if DisplayPort 1.4 works as well..

Thank you for the update.

I would suggest you update the firmware of the docking station and check for the result.

@Praveen196

I have allready done that before, and did it again just a minute ago. It still doens't work. I guess this is because my USB-C supports data only, so no display or something else.

So my question still stands, what are the requirements for using this G4 dock? DisplayPort 1.4 or thunderbolt?

Thanks for helping me btw!

@DionSoepboer

The HP USB-C Dock G4  docking station only has the USB c type port. It does not have a thunderbolt port.

Please see the specification of the docking station.

Only thunderbolt port support to connect the external monitor.

You can try purchasing the HDMI splitter converter and check for the issue.

Have a nice day!!
