HP Spectre x360 15t
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just bought an HP Spectre x360 15t and received it last Thursday so I haven't even been using a week.  I am using it with the lid closed and it is attached to an external monitor and I use a bluetooth mouse and keyboard.  I have only been surfing the web and watching Youtube videos and after some use, the fans come on high and the laptop gets EXTREMELY hot.  I turned off the computer when I was done, opened the lid and the keyboard area was very hot, as was where you would rest your wrists if typing on the keyboard.  However, the area up by the speakers was so hot as to be bordering on burning.  Same for the underside of the laptop.  Currently, it is just sitting flat on the desk.  I am probably planning on getting a laptop cooling pad but my question is this.  Is this laptop designed not to be run with the lid closed?  I know certain laptops run more efficiently with lid open for better airflow.  I purchased this computer to replace a 10+ year old Dell desktop and 99% of the time it will be used in the manner I described above.  I want this computer to last me a good number of years but with heat like I felt, I'm afraid it won't go that distance.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
