Thanks for your help.
Contacting Google Support is about as helpful as contacting Microsoft Support. I may as well write a note, put it in a bottle and chuck it in the sea 
I will migrate everything to EDGE (double-ugh) as I it will be the easier option.
Everything worked fine until the last Windows Update, so some settings have been changed! Very annoying.
My HP laptop is 3 years old and still working fine so will ride it out. Your support has been great. I will definitely get another HP one day when this one goes to computer heaven.
