Boot Device not found
07-04-2015 10:31 AM

Hello! I have a Pavilion dv6-7010 notebook. When I turn it on, it displays "Boot Device Not Found". I tried F2 diagnostics, memory test. This worked and showed "passed." I tried the hard drive check, quick check. It said starting hard drive check but went to SMART check NOT INSTALLED and Short DST NOT INSTALLED. I exited this and tried a Hard Drive Reset (remove battery, hold power button, etc...) and still is showing the Boot Device Not Found. What else can I try? Thanks for your help!

Sounds like the hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If not a retail laptop SATA hard drive can be used. Just be sure to get one of at least equal capacity as the original in order to use Recovery Discs. It can be larger, but not smaller capacity. For instance if you have a 500GB hdd you could use a 750GB hdd but not a 320GB hdd.
