Hello,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome !

Are you sure that Sleep mode is actually enabled? You can check in Control Panel - Power options >> http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/windows-7-power-options-sleep-modes-explained/

Screen can stop working (go blank) without the computer being in Sleep mode. Sleep mode is different.

The reason could be some application which prevents Windows from going to Sleep mode or some outdated driver (or faulty driver).

  • Please, ensure Sleep is enabled when you close the lid of your notebook.

  • Please, ensure all your drivers are updated. Use HP Support Assistant to ensure all updates are applied:

  • Ensure all your software (e.g. antivirus software) is fully updated (e.g. latest version from 2016).

  • Ensure Windows is updated (Control Panel >> Windows Update)

Please, check the official HP article about this problem >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01853693
