external display not recognized exiting sleep mode

spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

i have an external display connected via dcmi port. when computer awakes from sleep mode, the display is not recognized. even if i disconnect/reconnect the device from port, it is not seen. i must restart computer before device is recognized again. i also have similar problems with 10 port usb hub, but disconnect/reconnect fixes it.  Both fixes are overkill.  I didn't have any problems with these connections on old laptop. please advise.thx.
