problem installing Service pack 1 for Windows Vista 32-bit from windows update
09-20-2012 05:32 PM

I have been trying to install Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista Home (32 bits) through Windows Update many times. The Update panel shows Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (KB936330) is available. I install the update, which by the way, just takes me few minutes curiouslly. The "update succesfully installed" message with the green circle checked on appears. But then, when I check my computer properties, the Service Pack 1 is not there and Windows Updated keeps showing again and again the update for Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (KB936330) is available and that needs to be installed. I don't know what else to do, can you help me please.

Hi:
Try downloading and installing the standalone SP1 file.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30
If you get it to install that way, go straight to SP2 with the standalone download.

Hi,
My suggestion: go to the following site to download SP1 and install it yourself:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows/downloads/service-packs
(under section "Get older SP").
Regards.

I believe that after installing SP1 you will need to reboot the computer to have the version to show up as changed.
I am not an employee of HP, I am a volunteer posting here on my own time.

I download the sp1 using the link you gave me, http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30 but when I try to install it took almost 2 hours for the green bar to start moving, and then just stop and nothing more happened. It's that normal because I quit to ask for help. Do I need to do something else? Thanks.

Hi:
That isn't normal. SP1 should take less than an hour to completely install.
Unfortunately, I don't know where you go from here.
Me?
I would back up my files and do a system recovery, and then install those service packs from the download sites above right afterward.
See if you have better luck.
