LaserJet Pro (M281cdw)
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

My LaserJet Pro has been making a loud grinding and clicking noise ever since I replaced the toner cartridges.

I placed the old cartridges in to see if it was the new ones, but the sound is still there.

It sounds like it's in one of the feed areas--possibly the back where pages are flipped for two-sided printing.

Anyone experience this or have any repair ideas?

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are getting grinding noise while printing, follow these steps to fix the issue.

Clean the paper pick rollers on a printer where the paper tray is located on the bottom.

  1. Turn off the printer.

  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent, and then disconnect the power cord and any cables from the rear of the printer.

  3. Remove the paper stack from the input tray.

  4. Lift the printer and place it on its side or back.

  5. Pull out the paper tray, and then locate the gray paper pick rollers.

  6. Lightly dampen a cotton swab with water, and then squeeze it to remove any excess water.

  7. Clean the rollers with the swab, rotating the rollers with your fingers to completely clean them.

  8. Allow the rollers to dry for two minutes.

  9. Set the printer upright.

  10. Reconnect the power cord, and then turn on the printer.
