I print utilitry bills on card stock postcards and if I print more than one at a time the print gets too high on the bill.

My printer has an option for thick paper but not card stock

Printer - Clean and Tidy

Printer might be fussy about being kept clean and tidy.

Jams, drags, and paper alignment issues might happen for a multitude of reasons - some of which might be explained in ten words or less.

For example,

Amongst other reasons,

Paper Jams might be the result of one or more of the following:

  • Dirt
  • Age - wear and tear
  • Dirt (yes, repeated) - rollers, print cartridges, crevices
  • Bad paper placement - wrong tray, wrong way
  • Bad paper settings
  • Bad paper - unsupported
  • Incomplete / inaccurate job configuration
  • Incomplete cartridge alignment
  • Old ink cartridges that -- for whatever reason -- won't align, won't print, won't "work"

Way down on the bottom of the list:

  • Broken hardware - yes, can happen.

Start here:

Paper Jam Error

Step 3  -  Clean the paper feed rollers

Printer - Tray and Paper

True - EWS / Tray and Paper includes a limited number of paper types.

Reminder

HP Smart Mobile requires that you adjust the paper size / type before opening the content to be printed.

(Re)load the paper you want to use and close the tray.

Reference:

Printer Product Home > Category Manuals > Find and open the User Guide

OR

User Guide

> Section Load Paper / Load Media (wording varies)

Next,

Use the Printer Control Panel - look for a message to modify / edit the paper size & type

OR

Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Check Tray and Paper -- and, as / if available -- the Advanced sub-section

EWS > HP Document / How-to

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

EWS – Browser – Tray and Paper Management

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper Management

Select / Adjust settings for Paper Size / Type

Model Dependent:  Advanced section

Click Apply to save changes

Look for and select the paper size

and

Look for and select a matching (or nearly matching) paper type --

For example, Paper Type "Specialty Paper, Matte"

Example - Tray and Paper

Note that the printer shown in the example uses "Tray 2" as the custom paper tray.

This is the opposite many other printers where "Tray 1" is used for custom paper sizes and types.

Application / Software / Job Setup

What you do depends on the Software or Application you are using to open, view, configure, and submit the job to the printer.

In general, some of the same selection criteria is the same as when you are adjusting the paper size and type settings in EWS -- watch the paper size and select a matching paper type from the list.  These vary by printer model.
