Driver not found after windows 10 creator update

HP Recommended
HP Officejet 4500 G510g
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi

I upgraded to windows 10 Creator update recently in my windows 10 PC. The printer was working fine. Suddenly after the upgrade, I find an error message saying the printer driver is not found and HP Solution centre is also not working. I guess there is a driver issue with the creators update.

Please help me regarding this

Regards and Thanks,

Arnab

Hello, @ arnabnaha - Hope you are well 🙂

Thanks for your continued participation with the HP community! I'd be glad to help 🙂

I see that you are having issues with the printer driver including the solution center after the recent Windows update. Solution center is an older software and hence may not be compatible with the new Windows 10 environment.

The issue might have been caused by recent updates on your computer. I would suggest you a workaround by changing the compatibility on the drivers. Follow the steps below (Check the fig below for ref):

  • Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them. (Including the HP solution center)
  • Restart your computer.
  • Go to http://hp.care/2oUMOS9 and download and save the full feature driver file (Do not run the file, just download and save it to your desktop or download folder)
  • Now go to the download location, right-click on the driver file and select “Properties”.
  • Under “Compatibility” tab, check the box which says “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select “Windows 8” (In fig, I have selected Windows 7, but make sure you select Windows 8).
  • Also, select the box “Run this program as an administrator”.
  • Apply and save the settings.
  • Now double-click and run the program.

NB: If the solution center is still not working, I would suggest you use HP Scan and Capture application to scan using your Windows 10 system. HP Scan and Capture is a simple application that captures photos or documents from an HP scanning device or your computer's built-in camera.  These images can be previewed, edited, saved, and shared to other applications as well.

Go to http://hp.care/2bUVkrw to download and install the Windows Scan and Capture app.

That should get the solution center working. Let me know!

Cheers 🙂

Hi,

I got the same issue since the installation today of windows 10 Creator Update.

Now "Solutions Center" tell me there is a driver issue and that I need to reinstall it.

Since the windows update, my printer HP 4500 G510g-m is now listed as "unknown" in the Windows devices list.

I tried your recommandation by uninstalling all HP software and installing full software with wondows 8 & Administrator compatibility. It did not solve the issue... (solution center still mention a driver issue and the printer is now in the unknow device list of Windows).

I tried also (as recommanded by windows ) to search automatically for driver update, but Windows does not find any solution.

Hello, @Erwan46 - Thanks for reaching out!

You need to download the Windows 10 drivers (not win 😎 and then change the compatibility. Follow the steps below and check:

  • Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them. (Including the HP solution center)
  • Restart your computer.
  • Click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL32438/mp-109547-3/OJ_AIO_4500_G510g-m_Full_Win_WW_140_40... to download and save the full feature driver file (Do not run the file, just download and save it to your desktop or download folder)
  • Now go to the download location, right-click on the driver file and select “Properties”.
  • Under “Compatibility” tab, check the box which says “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select “Windows 8”. Check the fig I shared above for reference.
  • Also, select the box “Run this program as an administrator”.
  • Apply and save the settings.
  • Now, double-click and run the program.

That should do the trick. Let me know the outcome!

Cheers 🙂

I tried the solution you described but it didn't do the trick.

Connected to another computer running the previous version of Win 10 I encounter no problem whatsoever.

So what's next?

If you download windows 10 driver and do a compatibility for windows 7 as suggested, you will get an error saying : This Version will not work on the selected version of windows.

Sorry but the solution did not work, despite the fact I tried it on 2 different computers freshly updated to creator update. Before the updates everything was fine on both computers.

After applying your solution we still get an error box appearing every time we try to access the printer. Printer is also now mentioned as unknown into the windows devices list.

A new solution would be welcome...

thank you.

I didn't get the error message.
Interesting to mention: Windows Update shows me the message the HP driver has been downloaded (by Microsoft) but is unable to install the driver.
I have the impression we are dealing with an access right issue.
I ran the exe-file I downloaded from the HP site as admin.
Maybe it's the 64-bit version, but I got the samen results with the 32-bit version. So that can be excluded.

Hello, @arnabnaha

I suggested you run the compatibility as Windows 8 or 8.1, not Windows 7. Please try using the compatibility mode as Windows 8 or 8.1.

@Erwan46, @Ridle

Changing the driver compatibility is the one option which will help you fix the issue. Completely uninstall the drivers, download the Windows 10 drivers for your printer and then change the compatibility mode to Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 and run the program.

Also, check this forum threads: http://hp.care/2q0148E

Hope that helps!

Have a great day 🙂

Hi DVortex,

That's exactly what I did, using the compatibility modus of 8, 8.1 and 7.
That did not resolve the issue.
Because I didn't want to loose too much time I decided to go for a radical solution: reinstalling the Creator update, not a clean install but the one keeping my documents and settings.

And... after going through the full update I was able to install the driver Microsoft found on the internet.
Now I can scan & print. I didn't tried the solution center yet and I use the scan & print app to scan.

Cheers,

Ridle
