ENVY 5660 Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Since the latest Windows 10 Update I have not been able to print ( ENVY 5660 Printer ).  Worked fine prior to update.  I reinstalled ( using disc ) the software; no errors.  I checked the WiFi settings on the printer; said connected - no issues. When I try to print the 5660 does not show up as a printer option.  When I try to add it it shows up installed but with the message "driver is unavailable".

Totally uninstall and remove the printer from your system.  Now always use the HP Web site for your software.

Thank you, Sabretooth04, for posting a reply.  However, I'm a bit unsure of exactly what your answer means.  I understand the process of uninstalling and downloading the software from HP's website, but I'm not clear if you're saying this will resolve my issue or if this is just a general suggestion for future printers I purchase and too bad about my current one.

The reason I note the above is in light of an answer I received from another person having the same issue:

"I  have the same problem.  Since the Win10 17003 upgrade (Creators), none of my my HP printers (8620 via wireless or Envy 4522 via USB) will connect nor print.

I've already tried uninstalling the printers, downloading new software from HP and installing multiple times.  Each time, the software install fails at the attempt to actually connect with the printer -- either via wireless or via USB.

I suspect there is something going on with Windows Firewall or some other protection settings which is causing the HP software to not be able to 'see' the printers.

BTW, both printers are 'visible' to Win10 from the Control Panel 'Add a printer'. After the printer is added there is grey underneath it saying "Driver not available".

And both printers worked just fine on the previous version (1609?) of Win10, but I can't go back, cuz this time we had to do a clean install."

So, Sabretooth04, my next question would be whether or not you would have a response to the above.

All the best.

Well Microsoft appears to have caused the issue.   Either perform the above to see if it resolves your issue.  If not you may call Microsoft to see what in  their update caused the issue and how they are going to resolve it.

I suspect there is multiple players here, sharing the blame -- both MS and HP.  I've always found HP's drivers to be a bit dodgy -- sometimes they install, sometimes they don't and when they do, there frequently times they'll report a wireless printer as 'offline' when it isn't.

And remember, at least one of the printer drivers (the 8620) is from 2015!!! with no recent update!

So, I'm guessing MS tightened up the rules somewhere and HP's coding was 'flirting the edges' of compatibility/abiding by the rules and they've got caught....
