HP2540
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hello,

I have an HP2540. It was working before by WIFI and USB.

Since a couple of weeks when trying to scan it is no longer working.

When trying to use it, it is saying "Please wait the current work to finish" (and no work is running...)

I tried:

- Reboot computer

- Switch on/off the printer

- Use another computer

- Use HP Print and Scan doctor which blocks and is not working. It also tries to download an update that fails.

How can I proceed?

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

Please Uninstall and Reinstall the FULL feature software following these steps:

1. Uninstall the software in your computer
2. Download and save the FULL feature software (do not install it online)

The following resource will help you :

http://123.hp.com/us/en/

Key in your printer model, Operating System and download & install the FULL feature software.

3. Install the FULL feature “Saved” software

Once you have downloaded and installed the FULL feature software, you will be able to print and scan.

If you are not sure how to do this, the following resource will walk you through the steps:

How to Uninstall Download & Reinstall a Printer software

Hope that helps!

That did not work.

After uninstalling the software and installing it back again I get the message "Scan is in use. Wait until the current task is finished and then try to scan again" (this is my translation, the message is in Spanish).

What does it means "all software"? Could you be more specific describing the name of the software packages? (I am having an HP computer and there are like 20 packages which have a name starts with HP)

HI,

Check out this link for your software (for Win 10 32 bit)

http://support.hp.com/sg-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-deskjet-2540-all-in-one-printer-series/5295960/mo...

Select the FULL feature software to download (if you have not done so)

The HP printer should have software that begins with HP Deskjet 2540 Basic Device Software or other name that has the printer model name (HP Deskjet 2540 in it)

Try unistalling those.

For a more thorough cleanup, try this uninstaller from Microsoft:

Let us know if that works!

Still no working. When installing the connection by WIFI keeps saying the same thing, when connecting by USB says "Cannot find the printer"

The fact that 2 computers are not able to use the printer, isn't a signal that the problem might be in the printer and not in the computer?

Hi,

Let's try these troubleshooting steps:

Solve wireless problems
1. Make sure the printer is not connected to the network through an Ethernet cable
Wireless does not work if the printer is connected to the network through an Ethernet cable. Disconnect the
Ethernet cable from the printer.

2. Make sure the wireless light is turned on
If the blue light on the printer control panel is not lit, wireless might be turned off. To turn on wireless, touch
or swipe down the tab at the top of a screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch (Wireless), touch
(Settings). Touch Wireless Settings, and then touch Wireless to turn it on.
If the blue wireless light is blinking, it means the printer is not connected to a network. Use the Wireless Setup
Wizard available from the printer control panel to make a wireless connection. Touch or swipe down the tab at
the top of a screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch (Wireless), touch (Settings). Touch Wireless
Settings, touch Wireless Setup Wizard, and then follow the onscreen instructions.

3. Make sure the computer or the mobile device is connected to the wireless network
Make sure your computer or mobile device is connected to your wireless network. If you cannot connect the
computer to the network, contact the person who set up your network or the router manufacturer; there might
be a hardware issue with the router or computer.

4. Restart components of the wireless network
Turn off the router and the printer, and then turn them back on in this order: router first and then printer.
Sometimes, turning off devices and then turning them back on helps resolve network communication issues.
If you still cannot connect, turn off the router, the printer, and the computer, and then turn them back on in this
order: router first, then printer, and then computer

Still have problems? Visit the HP Wireless Printing Center (www.hp.com/go/wirelessprinting). This website
contains the most complete, up-to-date information about wireless printing, as well as information to help you
prepare your wireless network; solve problems when connecting the printer to the wireless network; and resolve
security software issues.
Note: If you are using a computer running Windows, you can use the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool, which can help
solve many problems you might have with the printer. To download this tool, visit www.hp.com/go/tools.

Hope that helps.

So...

1) This recommendation does not look to be applicable to my problem. HP2540 does not have an ethernet cable.

2 and 3)  I have been using all the time "Advance IP scanner", from my computer I am able to see the printer, which means, the printer is connected to the network and my computer as well.

4) Um... I mentioned before that it is also not working with the USB, so I think will be kind of strange that I am able to solve the wifi problem but not the USB!?. Anyhow, I tested it.

The information in www.hp.com/go/wirelessprinting is pretty useless. Is asking to check if the printer is connected the network... so essentially are all the previous steps

I mentioned in my previous post that HP Doctor was getting frozen and not working.

I have noticed, by chance, one thing... connecting directly by browser to the printer via IP I am able to connect to it and actually scan (although the format is jpg and not pdf). This might isolate (once for all) basic trouble shooting.

Any can help?

Looking to HP documentation there is nothing available for my case... I mean... most part of the information in HP help page essentially says "check the printer is switched on"

Hi,

Can you try this standalone sofware:

HP Scan Extended

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

Let us know if that works.
