HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Series
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently got this new printer so I can print my work on 11x17 sized paper. When attempting to print out my work there are these odd ink splotches on the sides that is ruining it. I thought it had something to do with the black ink, but even when I tried printing a white version of my work there were still ink splotches, as if something in the printer was dragging the ink.

Here are some examples, both in black and on white paper. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi @Ashton_N,

Good Day! Thanks for stopping by the HP forums. I reviewed the post about the  printer having printing issues and prints ink splotches. I will be delighted to assist you with this. Smiley Happy

Superb description of the issue before posting.  Kudos to you on that score. Smiley Happy It is always a privilege to work with customers like you. Smiley Happy

You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. We greatly appreciate you for doing business with HP. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. Smiley Happy

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this.

  • Did this happen after replacing ink cartridges?
  • Did you try with different cartridges?
  • Did you make copies directly from the printer without any communication from the computer to isolate the issue further?

For starters please try to make a few copies directly from the printer without any intervention from the computer.

  • Steps: Please try to make a few copies directly from the printer without any intervention from the computer. Please place the required document face down on the flatbed scanner and touch the copy button. If it copies fine, then the issue could be software related.

If it does not copy fine, please try to replace cartridges and check if it copies correctly.

If it does the issue should get resolved. If the problem persists the please contact HP phone support to get the cartridges replaced.

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number, Case number and phone number appear.

They will be happy to assist you immediately. If the unit is under warranty repair services is taken care of by the manufacturer’s warranty

If it copies correctly and does not print properly, please perform all the prescribed steps from this document: http://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-7740-wide-format-all-in-one-printer-series/7682...

This should do the trick for you. Please keep me posted.

Hope this helps.   I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Smiley Happy  Please reach out for any issues and I'll always be there to assist you always. Smiley Happy

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. Smiley Happy

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. Smiley Happy
