Deskjet 1050A
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I have been using cartridge 301 in my deskjet 1050a since i bought the device over 8 years ago.

I have just had a message suggesting a recently bought cartridge is an "incorrect cartidge" and obviously won't print.

I have read about copies of cartridges. My intention is to return this cartridge to the retailer where i bought it. i would like to  give them any information  or instruction from HP.

Can you advise.

Hey there! @Chriss145, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand you replaced the cartridge on your printer and you are getting incorrect cartridge error.

Don't worry I'd love to help you out.

Are you using HP original ink cartridges or refilled ink cartridge?

Please try the steps recommended below.

Resetting the printer can resolve some ink cartridge errors.
Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
   NOTE:
HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Let me know if this helps!

Have a beautiful day ahead! 🙂

I had previuosly carried out a "Reset" operation and refitted the old empty cartridge just to make sure all was in good order.

It was. The printer registered that the old cartidge was very low on ink. Taking the old one out and replacing this with the new one , the same old message came up. Incompatible cartridge.

Having bought another new 2 cartirdge pack i refitted the 301 black cartridge into the carriage and all worked fine.

The previous new cartridge was returned to the retailer who refunded my money.

So i have eventually a printer that works in both black and in colour. I believe there may be copies of the  HP 301 cartidge in the market.

Thanks for the reply and glad that the issue is resolved by replacing the cartridge. If any of the cartridges are defective, you can always contact our phone support for replacing the cartridge.
