My model is office pro 6978.

Worked fine until this week. Has all new HP ink.

Will not copy or print. Get blank pages.

When I go to quality print settings the options all seem to have a lock next to it. Could that be my problem? If so how do I unlock.

No owner manual came with it. Can I find on line and print?

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer and the printer will not print and copy anymore and only blank pages come out You have checked the print quality settings and the operating there have grayed out. I'll do my best to help.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Please check if the printer is detecting the ink levels. On the printer control panel, swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Ink Level Indicator icon .
  • Do you see any error messages?
  • Have you tried to make a copy using the scanner glass bed and the ADF (Automated Document Feeder)?
  • When using the scanner glass bed to make a copy, do you see that scanner bulb moving in the printer?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector. Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

Now please copy and check if the scanner bulb glows and moves to make a copy. If yes then please refer to this HP Document. (You may skip Step 1 to Step 6).

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know the results. Cheers! 🙂
