Officejet6700
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

My Officejet 6700 has been showing an error message for quite some time in regards to the printhead, that it is damaged, missing, or improperly installed. I refilled my ink thinking that they were low and were causing an issue, they were low, but as soon as I put the catridges into my printer, the error message popped up again. I tried whatever various troubleshooting that I could, except for doing a clean and print test as it won't give me that option on my computer to do so.

I called into the phone support, and the lady on the phone told me my only options were to buy new ink, which would put me up to an additional ~$130 or buy a new printer, which I really do not want to do after paying for my ink. She said that the refilled ink was the cause of it, but as I had stated, the error was appearing before I did this. And the message continued immediately as I put in the ink, leaving no time for said damage to occur. After mentioning the many posts I have seen on this forum, she said it was a hardware issue with the model of printer, yet, since my warranty is up they can do nothing. But if this is a known problem with the model, how is it that all that can be done is me spending more money to repurchase a product that is more than likely going to result in the same issue?

I understand my warranty is up, but there must be something else that can be done, especially if the agent I talked to stated that it was a hardware issue with the model. I've barely used the printer, and I finally need to in order to do wedding related things, but of course it's turned out to be a lemon.
