I am not able to scan from the control panel of the printer itself, only from opening the Smart app if I select scan.  When I use the control panel on the printer it tells me not connected, however, it is connected when I go through the Smart app.  I can scan only if I use the Smart App.  I am using my home WIFI to connect the printer and laptop together for printing.   I want to put an item on printer glass or in feed and press scan to the Printer control panel instead of going to the computer to open the Smart app.  How do I get it to work?
I was able to do this prior to installing the new hard drive and reloading the HP printer back on the laptop.
