HP Z420
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello,

I want to update the video card on my refurb Z420 (Xeon 1620v0 16GB RAM PN: A1S35EC).

I choose a 1050TI due to low power requirements but I keep getting the six beeps error on start-up.

The 1050TI is a low profile version but I do not believe this to be a factor.

The BIOS was updated to latest available version 3.94 rev A from 12th July 2018 but only after I had no success installing the new video card.

I tried with Legacy Support enabled and Secure Boot disabled (and all the other possible combinations for this two BIOS settings) as described in other posts on the forum but in all cases I get the six beeps error.

I also tried clearing the BIOS (removing the battery and power cable etc.).

The 1050TI video card works OK on a HP 8300 Elite and the Z420 works with an old ATI 4870HD with the two 6 pin additional power cables connected. So both the card and the slot are OK.

I also tried to put the card in the second PCIe x16 slot but no luck.

The power source is the 600W version.

Later Edit: I also tried with a Gainward 1060 6GB and I get the same result. Somehow I cannot get the BIOS to work with new video cards. Older cards (Ati 4550 and X600) work without any issue on Legacy settings.

Any help or suggestion is appreciated.

Thank you !
