Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I just recently purchased a new LG 38BN95C-W monitor for my work from home setup. One major selling point for me was the USB-C Thunderbolt port that the display supports. For work I have been given a HP Elitebook 840 G5 laptop, and for personal use I have a M1 MacBook Air.

I have confirmed that when I connect my MacBook with the supplied Thunderbolt cable (USB-C to USB-C) the display is recognized and works as expected. However when I connect my HP laptop using the same cable the display is not recognized. I did notice that without the power adapter and only USB-C connecting to the monitor that the laptop battery indicator shows it being plugged in, so it appears the cable and connection is working and only the display is not being recognized.

I am able to connect to the monitor using a HDMI cable and get optimal resolution of 3840x2160, however since the HDMI port is only version 1.4 the resolution is only supported at 30hz refresh rate. I believe if I can get the Thunderbolt port working it would support the same resolution at 60hz and also would reduce the need for the power adapter, allowing me to tidy up my space a bit.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? Any ideas on what I can try to get the display recognized? Is this a problem with drivers? Note that since this is a work PC I have limited ability to perform any installations and need to be mindful with any requests.

Thanks,

Michael
