I have been experiencing this problem for over a year now and I can't seem to find a solution for it. Even though the speakers on my laptop are working well, I cannot seem to get my earphones to do the same. Everytime I connect the earphones on, I initally hear the sound it makes when it connects but when I play music or a movie on my laptop, I cannot hear anything.  I resort to just listening on the speakers but sometimes I prefer listening on earphones.

My laptop uses the Realtek High Definition Audio. I tried to check other suggestions online but they do not work. I have also gone to Playback tab under 'Sound' but the only Playback Device is 'Speakers' and it is the default device.

I have no idea what else to do. Please help!
