MFP M180nw
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

My HP MFP M180nw worked great when it came to scanning documents, until about 2 weeks ago when I noticed that my scans look distorted in a couple of areas, whether scanning in color or B&W.  Thanks to another post in this community, I noticed that my scanner arm jumps and jerks a few times as it moves across the glass bed during scanning, just as it does in the YouTube video posted by MarkF88 in that other post.  I can see that the jerking of my scanner arm corresponds to the distorted areas (stretched and repeated words or images) that I see in similar areas of every scan I make.  My HP warranty has expired since I purchased this printer/scanner in 2017.  Is this an easy/inexpensive repair or something I can recalibrate via software or fix on my own?  I already tried restarting/unplugging the printer, and updating to the latest version of HP Easy Scan and HP Smart (it's definitely a hardware problem since I get the same skipping when using different scanning software.)   Please let me know if you have any recommendations, I would hate to trash this printer when it otherwise works great but I do need a working scanning function in addition to printing. Thank you!
