Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We utilize smart card readers on our HP printer fleet.  To scan users authenticate with their smart cards and then have access to scan to network folder, email, etc.  This has worked great for a number of years.  However, the July Cumulative Security patch from Microsoft "broke" this functionality and users were suddenly unable to authenticate - this happened as soon as the patch was applied to our domain controllers.  If we removed the patch then we were able to authenticate as we did before.

Good news and bad news - the good news is that this was a fairly widespread issue that Microsoft did acknowledge a few days after patch release and a subsequent patch was released to address the issue temporarily.   However the bad news is that this will only work until February of 2022 when the fix will no longer be supported.  It seems the manufacturers like HP will need to address this in the form of some kind of firmware update.  We have tried the latest FutureSmart firmware available for our printers and it did NOT resolve the issue.  So seems something more is needed in the next few months before this "breaks" again.  Details from Microsoft are at the link below.  Is anyone else having this issue?  Does anyone know how we find out if HP is aware and addressing?   We have been trying to escalate with sources we have, but little luck so far.

Important: You must have your non-compliant devices updated and compliant or replaced by February 8, 2022, when the temporary mitigation will not be usable in security updates.
