Is there a software version that works without the dongle? Student style? Looking for multiple licenses across devices without have to purchase a dongle each time.

If you start the software without the dongle it will work with just one limitation, you will not be able to export scans.

I guess it's not the dongle itself, I am hoping that there is a multiple licesnsing package.

Unfortunately no, but you can buy software as a separate product without buying a scanner.
