Hi @QuevasW5,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop is stuck on "Preparing Automatic Repair", it usually means Windows is having trouble booting properly. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get it working again:

Step 1: Perform a Hard Reboot

  1. Hold down the power button for 10–15 seconds until the laptop shuts off.
  2. Wait a few seconds, then press the power button again to turn it back on.
  3. See if it boots normally. If not, continue to the next step.

Step 2: Boot into Recovery Mode

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Turn it back on and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly (once every second) until the Startup Menu appears.
  3. Press F11 to enter System Recovery.

If this works, you’ll see options like:

  • Continue to Windows
  • Troubleshoot
  • Turn off your PC

Step 3: Use Advanced Repair Options

  1. Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced Options.
  2. Try these in order:
    • Startup Repair – Let Windows try to fix itself.
    • System Restore – If you have a restore point, this can roll back to a working state.
    • Command Prompt – For advanced fixes (I can guide you through this if needed).
    • Uninstall Updates – If the issue started after an update.

Step 4: Boot into Safe Mode

  1. From Advanced Options, go to Startup Settings > Restart.
  2. After restart, press 4 or F4 to boot into Safe Mode.
  3. If it boots, you can uninstall problematic drivers or updates.

Step 5: Reset the PC (Last Resort)

If nothing else works:

  • Go to Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
  • Choose Keep my files (if you want to preserve your data) or Remove everything.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
