Hi @QuevasW5,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop is stuck on "Preparing Automatic Repair", it usually means Windows is having trouble booting properly. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get it working again:
Step 1: Perform a Hard Reboot
- Hold down the power button for 10–15 seconds until the laptop shuts off.
- Wait a few seconds, then press the power button again to turn it back on.
- See if it boots normally. If not, continue to the next step.
Step 2: Boot into Recovery Mode
- Turn off the laptop.
- Turn it back on and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly (once every second) until the Startup Menu appears.
- Press F11 to enter System Recovery.
If this works, you’ll see options like:
- Continue to Windows
- Troubleshoot
- Turn off your PC
Step 3: Use Advanced Repair Options
- Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced Options.
- Try these in order:
- Startup Repair – Let Windows try to fix itself.
- System Restore – If you have a restore point, this can roll back to a working state.
- Command Prompt – For advanced fixes (I can guide you through this if needed).
- Uninstall Updates – If the issue started after an update.
Step 4: Boot into Safe Mode
- From Advanced Options, go to Startup Settings > Restart.
- After restart, press 4 or F4 to boot into Safe Mode.
- If it boots, you can uninstall problematic drivers or updates.
Step 5: Reset the PC (Last Resort)
If nothing else works:
- Go to Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
- Choose Keep my files (if you want to preserve your data) or Remove everything.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
