HP ENVY 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-ch1000 (436W7AV)

Hello everyone.

I have a problem with my hp envy 17-ch1056nf. I wanted to update the bios to the latest version by creating a usb key with the hp utility. Except that after launching it my pc started to restart in a loop. I remade a key and tried again but without success. I have the bios utility that opens but a message displays bios recovery failed unable to open bios signature file. Have you already encountered this problem? How to solve it?

Hi @Jeaz6833,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the BIOS on your computer becomes corrupted while using a USB key, or if the computer fails to start Windows. The BIOS can be corrupted during normal operation, through environmental conditions (such as a power surge or outage), from a failed BIOS upgrade or damage from a virus. If the BIOS is corrupted, the system automatically attempts to restore the BIOS from a hidden partition when the computer is restarted.

To recover an earlier version of the BIOS on your computer:
1) Shutdown the computer, keep the charger plugged

2) Hold down the Windows and B button together while the computer is still turned off.

3) Turn on the computer and continue to hold the Windows and B button until a BIOS Recovery screen appears.

4) Follow on-screen instructions and click on OK

If this recovery method fails, use another working computer to create a BIOS recovery flash drive to install the latest BIOS file.

I've already done everything you've told me, but it hasn't changed a thing. I still don't have a BIOS and I keep getting the same error. Between this BIOS problem present on several HP computer models and the very brittle plastics on all HP laptop models, it's really a shame all this programmed obsolescence for a renowned brand like HP. I bought this computer just 2 years and 4 months ago for €1,200 and now I'm being asked to pay €500 to have it repaired. This is really not normal, HP should take care of this problem. I'm a self-employed computer technician, so you can be sure that I'll be making a very bad ad for Hp

Hi @Jeaz6833,

Welcome to the HP support community.

I'm really sorry to hear about your experience with your HP laptop. I completely understand how frustrating it must be, especially considering the investment you made in this device. It's disappointing when a product doesn’t meet expectations, and I appreciate you sharing your feedback.

I want to help you as much as possible. To explore all available options, could you please share your PC’s serial number? This will allow me to check warranty details, potential repair programs, and any BIOS recovery solutions that might apply specifically to your model.

Please help us with your HP unit serial number or the product number on a private message for further assistance.
