Problem Description:
After updating the BIOS from version F24 to F26, the laptop's fans started behaving erratically, turning off and on randomly. Attempts to roll back the BIOS to version F24 have been unsuccessful. The rollback process fails when it reaches the "clearing pending image" stage, and the laptop shuts down at that point.
Steps Taken:
Verified the correct file structure and followed HP's instructions for the rollback process.
Tried multiple USB ports and a newly purchased USB drive.
Attempted to disable the TPM on Windows 10 and then again on Windows 11, but the issue persists.
Additional Info:
The laptop model is HP OMEN 16.
The issue began immediately after the BIOS update

Hi @Nasirjr24,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
The BIOS update from F24 to F26 on your HP OMEN 16 seems to have triggered a firmware-level issue affecting fan control and rollback functionality. The symptoms you described, erratic fan behavior, failed rollback at “clearing pending image”, and shutdown during rollback point to a corrupted or locked BIOS image or a conflict with TPM/UEFI settings.
Let’s go Step-by-Step Recovery Plan
1. Confirm BIOS Rollback Support
Some HP BIOS versions disable rollback after certain updates. Check the release notes for F26 on HP’s support site to confirm if rollback is blocked.

2. Use HP BIOS Recovery Tool (HP BIOS Crisis Recovery)
If rollback fails via USB, try the built-in recovery method:
Steps:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Insert the USB drive with BIOS F24 (formatted FAT32, correct file structure).
- Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.
- Release the power button, but keep holding Windows + B until you see the BIOS recovery screen.
This method bypasses normal boot and attempts to recover the BIOS directly.
3. Disable Secure Boot and TPM (again)
Even if you’ve tried this before, do it in this order:
- Boot into BIOS (F10 during startup).
- Disable Secure Boot.
- Disable TPM (if available).
- Save and exit.
- Retry rollback or recovery.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
