@Vere3, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding How to Fix a Laptop with a Black Screen!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your laptop turns on but the screen remains black, follow the steps below to try and resolve the issue:

Reset the Laptop

  1. Power off the laptop.
  2. Disconnect any cables, including the power adapter.
  3. With the power adapter unplugged, press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power adapter, and then turn on the laptop.

Connect an External Monitor

The screen might remain black due to a corrupted graphics driver or a problem with the LCD screen backlight. Testing with an external monitor can help identify the issue:

Attach an external monitor to the laptop.

Restart the laptop.

If the laptop screen image does not display on the external monitor, press the F4 key until the screen image appears.

If the image displays correctly on the external monitor, there might be an issue with the internal LCD screen or its driver. You can update your graphics driver by going to HP Support to download and install the latest graphics drivers.

Recover the BIOS

  1. Power off the laptop.
  2. Connect the laptop to a power source using the power adapter.
  3. While the laptop is off, press and hold the Windows + B keys.
  4. While holding the Windows + B keys, press the power button for one second, then release both keys.
  5. The power light remains on, and the screen may remain blank for about 40 seconds. You might hear beeping sounds.
  6. The HP BIOS Update screen should display, and the BIOS recovery process begins.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
