@KNS85, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
If you are having trouble unlocking the cartridge unit to replace the cartridges on your HP ENVY 6100 printer, follow these steps:
Steps to Replace Cartridges
Make sure the printer is turned on: Ensure your printer is on. If it does not turn on, continue with the following steps.
Open the cartridge access door: Open the cartridge access door by pulling it upwards. Wait for the carriage to stop moving and become idle.
Release the cartridge: Press down lightly on the top of the cartridge to release it. This action should unlock the cartridge from its slot, allowing you to remove it.
Recycle the used cartridge: Recycle the used cartridge. Visit hp.com/recycle for more information.
Unpack the new cartridge: Remove the new cartridge from its packaging and pull the tab to remove the plastic tape.
Note: Do not touch the electrical contacts or the nozzle on the cartridge to avoid any damage.
Insert the new cartridge: Slide the new cartridge into the corresponding slot, and then firmly push it at an upward angle until it locks into place and you hear a snap.
Close the cartridge access door: Close the cartridge access door and ensure it is securely shut.
Align the ink cartridges: The HP software will prompt you to align the ink cartridges when you print a document after installing a new ink cartridge. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the alignment process.
