Hi @mjpalmerr

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for explaining everything so clearly, and I’m truly sorry the camera on your HP Envy x360 has stopped working so soon after setup. It’s frustrating when a feature that worked during initial setup suddenly fails, especially with both the Camera app and facial recognition now affected.

Let’s walk through a focused set of steps to help restore camera functionality:

1. Perform a Full Power Drain

  • Shut down the laptop completely.
  • Disconnect the power adapter and all peripherals.
  • Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  • Reconnect power and restart. This clears residual hardware states.

2. Reinstall the Camera Driver Manually

  • Go to Device Manager > Cameras or Imaging Devices.
  • Right-click and uninstall the camera device.
  • Restart the laptop.
  • Download and install the latest camera driver from the official support page:
    HP Envy x360 14-fa0000 Drivers & Software

3. Install Latest BIOS and Chipset Updates

  • BIOS updates often contain firmware fixes for camera initialization.
  • On the same support page, install:
    • Latest BIOS update
    • Latest Intel Chipset driver
    • Latest Intel Imaging/Camera driver (if listed)

4. Reset Windows Camera Permissions

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
  • Ensure access is enabled for both apps and desktop applications.
  • Scroll down and confirm the specific app (e.g., Camera, Zoom, Teams) has permission.

5. Run HP UEFI Diagnostics from USB

  • If F2 diagnostics didn’t detect the camera, create a bootable USB with HP’s full diagnostics suite:
    HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI
  • Boot from the USB and run Component Tests > Webcam.

6. Check for Windows Camera App Reset

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps > Camera > Advanced Options.
  • Click Reset, then Repair.
  • Restart and test again.

Once these steps are complete, try launching the Camera app again and test facial recognition. Let me know how it responds and we’ll continue from there.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
